How we rank

Each place earns points for the facts we hold about it. Points add up; the most points ranks first.

FactPoints
Open play on the schedule in the next 14 days (4 points with 6 or more sessions)3 to 4
Number of courts: 2 or 3 courts earn 1 point, 4 or 5 earn 2, 6 or more earn 31 to 3
Confirmed free public access (map data alone doesn't earn it)2
Lights for evening play2
Indoor courts2
Dedicated pickleball lines (not shared with tennis)1
Permanent pickleball nets1
  • Only open places are ranked. Courts limited to a base, a school or a club's own members are left out, and so are places a data source has stopped listing.
  • How well we know a place earns no points of its own. Details our team has confirmed help a place qualify for the list and confirm free access, but they don't add to its score.
  • Courts without a real name are left out of the ranking until someone names them.
  • Free access earns points only when we can stand behind it: details our team confirmed, or a listing from the venue, a partner or a local organizer. Map data alone doesn't earn it, because private clubs are sometimes tagged as public there.
  • Unknown is not no. A place whose lights we don't know simply doesn't get the lights points. We never guess from a name.
  • Ties go to the place with more courts, then more open play, then alphabetical order.
  • Open play counts the sessions posted by venues and organizers for the next 14 days.
  • Most court facts come from open map data and venue listings, plus details our team confirms. The list is recalculated from our live data about every half hour.
  • Nobody pays to be on this list or to rank higher.
